Hernando County Dispatch Codes Practice Test

Code nine means the license plate tag is lost or stolen. This status focuses on the tag itself rather than the whole vehicle, so responders treat the plate as missing and verify its status in the records before making stops or issuing any instructions. When a tag is reported lost or stolen, officers will typically check the plate number in the system, contact the tag office or DMV for guidance, and may arrange for a temporary plate or other precautions for the vehicle involved. This is different from a stolen vehicle, where the entire car is missing; a recovered tag indicates the tag has been found and is no longer considered missing; and an abandoned vehicle refers to a vehicle left unattended on a roadway or public property.
